Room 11 Ag Day

Over the last three weeks we have been creating art pieces related to our maths and inquiry projects.

The three things we made was Art made with Natural objects followed with a Haiku.  Upcycled Tessellation Pot Plants and Cultural Fabric Art. The class really enjoyed making the pot plants and cultural fabric art. The pot plants were fun because we got to design a bottle shape and cut it out. Then we got to get dirty planting a pretty flower inside. Look at our designs below. The cultural fabric art was fun because it was a bit different. We selected designs from cultural patterns studied during our Refugee inquiry. We used dye and paint to make these effective fabric patterns.

Shayelah Clark Cake's

This week we have kicked started a mission to inspire students to relate their classroom education to a real life goal .i.e. raising awareness of future roles that students could aspire too. Shayelah came to Room 11 to talk about how she started her thriving cake business in Kaitaia. Students were highly engaged as they learnt how maths, business studies, youtube and the power of social media is important for running a business. Students also learnt what it is like to be a sole trader and manage everything yourself. We have a few aspiring cake makers in Room 11. Check out student's blog to see what they learnt and enjoyed.

Here are some final pop-up card outcomes Room 11 have produced following the technological practice procedure.

Life Education - Inside the Human Body

The last two weeks we have been learning about our body with

Harold the Giraffe.

We learnt:

- 656 muscles in the human body

- The eyelids are the fastest muscle

- The tongue is the most flexible muscles that helps us to digest food.

- Our bottom is called Gluteus Maximus

- The heart is the strongest muscles

- The lungs wrap over our heart.

- We learnt where our internal organs are found in the body

- When we exercise we stretch out our muscles!  Oxygen and nutrients are used to energise our muscles to move and as a result we create carbon dioxide and waste which needs to leave our body.

School Hangi

On Thursday, the school celebrated Matariki with a whole school Hangi. Throughout the day, we walked across to the Clubrooms to watch the process of how our kai was cooked. It was a lot of fun mixing with other year groups and being apart of this whole school experience. There was over 300 kai packages filled with beef, stuffing, school-grown kumara, school-grown carrots and cabbage. The food was delicious!
